    Go trekking in the high mountains of Ladakh, camp besides the famous Pangong Lake, drive over the world's highest motorable road, go rafting in the Zanskar River and ride an ATV in the sand dunes at Hunder. In this 8-day adventure-packed itinerary, you'll combine the exciting adventures of rafting and trekking with a road trip across the cold desert kingdom of Ladakh.

    Throughout the trip, as you climb over rocks on mountain trails, as you battle the rapids of the Zanskar River, as you travel over winding high-altitude roads, you'll have dramatic views of Ladakh's barren mountains, as far as the eye can see. Apart from adventures in the stark landscape, you'll also get a taste of the Buddhist culture at famous monasteries, like the Diskit monastery, where you'll admire colourful artwork and giant sculptures of the Buddha.

    Most popular for the endless stretches of mountain slopes, painted with different shades of brown and grey, the cold desert kingdom of Ladakh is also peppered with exciting adventures in trekking and rafting. The barren mountain slopes of the Ladakh range with snow-capped peaks are bisected with the glacier-fed riverbeds of the Indus, Zanskar and Shyok among many others. This dramatic landscape, navigable with some of the highest mountain passes in the world, makes for a strikingly beautiful destination in the Himalayas.

    Rules on the trip

    Travellers are required to follow instructions of the trek leader during the Ladakh trek and road trip.

    Consumption of alcohol, drugs and tobacco products like cigarettes is strictly prohibited during the trip.

    Travellers are requested to treat the local culture with respect and avoid littering, defacing property and monuments and causing general disturbance.

    Cancellation policy

    For cancellations made more than 15 days before departure of the Ladakh trek and road trip: 75% refund.

    For cancellations made 10-15 days before departure of the Ladakh trek and road trip: 50% refund.

    For cancellations made 7-9 days before departure of the Ladakh trek and road trip: 25% refund.

    For cancellations made less than 7 days before departure of the Ladakh trek and road trip: no refund.

    All refunds will be processed after deducting a transaction fee of INR 200 per person. This fee is charged by The Great Next.

    Additional instructions, booking policies, terms and conditions

    Rafting in the Zanskar River is a water-dependant activity, that can only be organized between 25 Jun-30 Aug. The tour operator will not be responsible for any last minute cancellations of the rafting activity due to unsuitable water conditions.

    During this Ladakh trek and road trip, travellers will visit destinations at altitudes from 9,800 ft to 13,900 ft and may experience altitude sickness, if proper measures of acclimatization are not followed.

    Ladakh is located at an altitude with no internet connectivity and moderate road access/availability of services. Travellers are advised to take such circumstances under consideration before booking this trip.

    The tour operator takes utmost care to ensure safety of the travellers and shall not be held responsible for any mishap, accident or loss of life and property during the trip.

    The tour operator reserves the right to alter or cancel the itinerary of this trip due to bad weather conditions or other unforeseen circumstances to ensure maximum safety of travellers and staff.

  • Day 1 of the Ladakh trek and road trip: Arrive in Leh

    Arrive at the Leh Airport. Here, a representative of the tour operator will welcome you and escort you to a hotel. You'll spend the rest of the day at leisure in your hotel room, allowing your body to acclimatize to the high altitude of Leh. You're advised to have frequent meals, stay hydrated and avoid exerting yourself. In the evening, you can head out to visit Shanti Stupa, a Buddhist monument with colourful artwork and gorgeous views of Leh. Overnight in a hotel at Leh.

    Day 2 of the Ladakh trek and road trip: Leh to Yangthang

    After an early morning wake up call, you'll prepare to begin your Ladakh trek to today's destination of Yangthang. From Leh, a short 2-hr drive in a private vehicle will take you to the village of Likir, where you'll deboard and continue on foot. The 5-hr trek from Likir to Yangthang takes you on a clear and straight route, with dramatic views of Ladakh's distant mountains and hills. Towards the end of the trek, you'll summit a hill and come upon the small Yangthang village. Overnight in a homestay at Yangthang.

    Day 3 of the Ladakh trek and road trip: Yangthang to Leh

    Today's trek is a short but steep and uphill walk from Yangthang to Hemis Shukpachan. Gradually weaving your way over meandering trails, you'll cross the Tsermanchang-La pass, with gorgeous views of the vast Ladakhi terrain keeping you company. From the idyllic green fields of Hemis, you'll travel back to Leh with a short, 2-hr drive.

    At Leh, you'll engage in a thrilling session of white water rafting in the Zanskar River. You'll battle the rapids of the river and ride the waves with a paddle in your hand and a life jacket over your chest. Rafting is available only beteween 25 Jun-30 Aug. Overnight in a hotel at Leh.

    Day 4 of the Ladakh trek and road trip: Leh to Nubra Valley

    After a lazy morning, you'll board a private vehicle and begin the 5-hr drive from Leh to the town of Hunder in Nubra Valley. En route, you'll make a pit stop at the Khardung-La Pass, the highest motorable road in the world. The final part of the drive will take you parallel to the Shyok River with gorgeous views of brown and barren mountain slopes.

    In the evening, you can explore the sand dunes of Nubra Valley, popular for the rare double-humped camel, and take an exciting ATV ride at Hunder. Overnight in Swiss tents at Hunder.

    Day 5 of the Ladakh trek and road trip: Nubra Valley to Leh

    Begin the return journey from Hunder to Leh. En route, you'll stop by the Diskit monastery, a hilltop house of worship with a colourful statue of the Buddha. After some time at the monastery, you'll return to Leh over the same route via the Khardung-La Pass. Spend the evening at leisure. Overnight in a hotel at Leh.

    Day 6 of the Ladakh trek and road trip: Leh to Pangong Lake

    Your road trip across Ladakh continues as you travel to the multi-coloured Pangong Lake. The 4-hr drive will take you over the Chang-La Pass, the third highest motorable road in the world. After driving over winding mountain roads, you'll reach the Pangong Lake, where you can sit by the shore and dip your feet in the cool water. As the sun sets over the Himalayas, you'll notice the water changing shades of blue and green with a blanket of twinkling stars overhead. Overnight in Swiss tents at Pangong Lake.

    Day 7 of the Ladakh trek and road trip: Pangong Lake to Leh

    Begin the return journey from Pangong Lake to Leh. En route, you'll stop by the Shey Palace and monastery, the summer palace of an erstwhile king of Leh. You'll also visit the Thiksey Monastery, a hilltop monastery with panoramic views of the Indus Valley. En route, you'll also stop by the Lotus School, featured in the popular Bollywood movie '3 Idiots', although entrance depends on the school authorities. Overnight in a hotel at Leh.

    Day 8 of the Ladakh trek and road trip: Depart from Leh

    Board the vehicle and transfer back to the airport. Your trip ends here.

    Overnight in Ladakh Delight, La Buddha, Royal Hill or similar hotel in Leh.

    Trek from Yangthang to Hemis Shukpachen, drive to Leh, go rafting in the Zanskar River. You'll be accommodated in a hotel at Leh. Today's meal package includes breakfast and dinner only. You can have lunch at the hotel in Leh or visit any of the restaurants in Leh to have additional meals, at your own expense.

    Day 4 of the Ladakh trek and road trip: Leh to Nubra Valley

    Overnight in Nubra Eco Camps at Hunder.

    Drive from Leh to Hunder. You'll be accommodated in Swiss tents at Hunder. Today's meal package includes breakfast and dinner only. You can have lunch at Hunder or at any of the eateries and restaurants en route to Hunder, at your own expense.

    Day 5 of the Ladakh trek and road trip: Nubra Valley to Leh
