  • Trip introduction

Spiti, in the local language, stands for middle land, because it lies between India and Tibet, and offers you a rare and beautiful combination of both cultures. This epic road trip takes you deep into the desolate, gorgeous landscape of the Spiti Valley, where you’ll see turquoise rivers, quaint Spiti villages, and the ancient monasteries of Ki, Nako, Tabo, and Kundri, where the air is heavy with incense. You'll also visit Komik, one of Asia's highest inhabited villages, and send a postcard from Hikkim, the highest post-office in the world. On your way back, you’ll stop for a night at the stunning Chandratal Lake, a blue, blue lake shaped like a crescent moon. You’ll camp here for the night, in Swiss tents and watch the lake change colour as the sky changes from dusk to night.

Your jeep odyssey begins and ends in Manali, and takes you through some truly spectacular landscape. You'll be comfortably seated in a non-A/C Innova shared by 6 people, and will enjoy an easy ride over 7 days.

    Destination

In the midst of the bleak craggy rocks and towering mountains, you'll find all the charm and majestic beauty of this spectacular region. You’ll stay in quaint hotels or in homestays with local families, seeing how they live their daily lives in this extreme terrain. The Spiti Valley is bleached white and grey with the weather, but has patches of green oases and sparkling water bodies, making for some wonderful photography opportunities. It is home to the Siberian ibex, bharal, weasel, red fox, and of course, the land's most famous resident, the snow leopard, so do keep your eyes peeled!
