  • Trip introduction

    The Buran Ghati trek is a moderately difficult, 7 day trek that begins in Janglikh and ends in Kharcham. The trek takes you to an altitude of 15,000 feet to the pass. Although this trek is little known, it is a brilliant trek for those seeking adrenaline pumping adventure. One of the highlights of the trek is that on one particular stretch, you will climb down an ice wall using a rope. The trek offers you an overall experience of the snow covered mountain ranges, thick forests, lush grasslands and dreamlike snowfields.

    Destination

    Buran Ghati Pass is located at an altitude of 15,000 feet above sea level, alongside the Rupin Pass. The pass offers some spectacular views of the Dhauladhar and Kinner Kailash ranges. Even while trekking, you will be in the constant company of tall mountain peaks covered in snow. The trek also goes through the dense forests, pastures and snowfields of Himachal Pradesh.

    Rules on the trip

    Consumption of alcohol and drugs is strictly prohibited during the trip. Consumption of cigarettes and other tobacco products is not recommended.

    Travellers are requested to treat the local culture with respect and avoid littering, defacing property and monuments and causing general disturbance.

    Travellers are required to follow instructions of the trek leader during the Burhan Ghati Pass trek.

    Cancellation policy

    For cancellations made 30 days or more before departure of the Buran Ghati Pass trek: 100% refund.

    For cancellations made 15-29 days before departure of the Buran Ghati Pass trek: 50% refund.

    For cancellations made less than 15 days before departure of the Buran Ghati trek: no refund.

    In case of no show: no refund.

    All refunds will be processed after deducting the cost of accommodation, travel and other expenses already incurred by the tour operator.

    All refunds will be processed after deducting a transaction fee of INR 200 per person. This fee is charged by The Great Next.

    Additional instructions, booking policies, terms and conditions

    All travellers are required to sign an indemnity form before beginning the Buran Ghati Pass trek.

    The tour operator takes utmost care to ensure safety of the travellers and shall not be held responsible for any mishap, accident or loss of life during the Buran Ghati Pass trek.

    The tour operator reserves the right to cancel or alter the itinerary of the Buran Ghati trek depending upon the weather conditions and other factors. If extra costs are incurred due to changes in the itinerary, they will be borne by the traveller.

  • Day 1 of the Buran Ghati Pass trek: Shimla to Janglikh

    Today, you will drive from Shimla to Janglikh via Rohru. You will pass the small villages of Diwedi, Ambot, Dhanwari, etc. and the drive overall is quite scenic. Overnight in home stay/tents at Janglikh.

    Day 2 of the Buran Ghati Pass trek: Janglikh to Litham Thach

    On the second day, you will start your trek to Litham which will take you around 7 hrs. The trail ascends and descends several times and you will pass several water streams and grazing grounds on the way. Overnight in tents at Litham Thach campsite.

    Day 3 of the Buran Ghati Pass trek: Litham Thach to Dunda Thach

    Today, you trek to Dunda Thach which will take you around 5 hrs. You will get to trek along the Pabbar River and after some time you will cross the tree line and begin your steep ascend through boulders to Dunda Thack which is located at the foot of the pass. Overnight in tents at Dunda Thach.

    Day 4 of the Buran Ghati Pass trek: Rest day

    Today, you will rest at the Dunda Thach and acclimatize yourself to the high altitude. You might even visit the Chandranahan Lake. Overnight in tents at the campsite.

    Day 5 of the Buran Ghati Pass trek: Dunda Thach to Buran Ghati Pass to Maldi Thach

    Today is the main day of the trek as you will begin your trek to the Buran Ghati Pass. After which, you will descend to Maldi Thach. The trek will take you around 8 hrs to complete. The trek is quite steep at a couple of locations, but your efforts will be rewarded by the panoramic view of the Kinner-Kailash peaks from the top of the pass. The descend too is steep and you might have to use ropes to climb down a wall of snow. Overnight in tents at Maldi Thach.

    Day 6 of the Buran Ghati Pass trek: Maldi Thach to Kharcham

    Today, you will begin your trek to Kharcham which will take you around 6 hrs. It is a descending trek. You will trek through a forest and reach Kharcham by evening. Overnight in tents/homestay at Kharcham.

    Day 7 of the Buran Ghati Pass trek: Kharcham to Shimla

    Today you depart for Shimla, which will be a 7 hrs drive. Your trip will end by afternoon.

    Today's meal package includes breakfast, lunch and dinner. You will receive breakfast before setting out for the trek. You will have packed lunch on the way itself. Dinner will be served to you at the campsite. As for the night, you will be issued sleeping bags and mattresses.

    Day 3 of the Buran Ghati Pass trek: Litham Thach to Dunda Thach

    Overnight in tents at Dunda Thach.

    Today's meal package includes breakfast, lunch and dinner. You will begin your trek post-breakfast. Packed lunch on the trek itself, and dinner will be served to you at the Dunda Thach campsite. For the night, you will be issued sleeping bags and mattresses.

    Day 4 of the Buran Ghati Pass trek: Rest day

    Overnight in tents at Dunda Thach.

    Today's meal package includes breakfast, lunch and dinner. You will be served all the meals at the campsite, and packed lunch if you go to Chandranahan Lake. Sleeping bags and mattresses will be issued to you for the night.

    Day 5 of the Buran Ghati Pass trek: Dunda Thach to Buran Ghati Pass to Maldi Thach

    Overnight in tents at Maldi Thach.

    Today's meal package includes breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast will be served in the morning before you set out for your trek. You will have a packed lunch on the trek itself. Upon reaching Maldi Thach, dinner will be served to you. Sleeping bags and mattresses will be issued to you for the night.

    Day 6 of the Buran Ghati Pass trek: Maldi Thach to Kharcham

    Overnight in tents/homestay at Kharcham.

    Today's meal package includes breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast will be served to you before you begin your trek, packed lunch on the way, and dinner will be served to you at Kharcham. Sleeping bags and mattresses will be provided to you for the night.

    Day 7 of the Buran Ghati Pass trek: Kharcham to Shimla

    Your trip ends by evening.

    Today's meal package includes only breakfast which will be served to you at Kharcham before you depart for Shimla.
