  • Trip introduction

    The trek to Vasuki Lake is a thrilling adventure which is quite unique from other treks in the region. It lets you experience the varying landscape of the Himalayas. The trek begins in a dense forest and goes through desolate desert, over surreal glaciers and high altitude meadows. It also offers some of the most stunning views of the Himalayas, including the famous peaks of Mt. Shivling, Mt. Thalay Sagar, Mt. Meru and the Bhagirathi group. You will visit the source of the Ganga River, spend a night in the shade of Mt. Shivling, and trek across the Meru Glacier and through the lush meadows of Tapovan. The highlight of this trek, however, is the high altitude Vasuki Tal, from where you will get some of the most dramatic views of the Himalayas.

    On this 9-day trek to Vasuki Tal, you will visit and explore some brilliant landscapes of the Himalayas. You will summit Vasuki Tal which is a high altitude glacial lake at 14,200 feet. It is at the foot of Mt. Satopanth and Vasuki Parbat. You will also visit Gaumukh which is the source of the Ganga River and a holy site for Hindu devotees. And you will trek through Tapovan, which is a high altitude meadow dotted here and there with wildflowers. Explore the dramatic Himalayan landscape on this trek to Vasuki Tal.

    Rules on the trip

    Travellers must follow all instructions of the trek leader during the Vasuki Tal via Tapovan trek.

    Travellers are requested to treat the local culture with respect and avoid littering, defacing property and monuments and causing general disturbance.

    Consumption of alcohol and drugs is strictly prohibited during the Vasuki Tal via Tapovan trek.

    Cancellation policy

    For cancellations made 30 days or more before departure of the Vasuki Tal via Tapovan trek: 95% refund.

    For cancellations made between 15-29 days before departure of the Vasuki Tal via Tapovan trek: 50% refund.

    For cancellations made less than 15 days before departure of the Vasuki Tal via Tapovan: no refund.

    In case of no show: no refund.

    All refunds will be processed after deducting a transaction fee of INR 200 per person. This fee is charged by The Great Next.

  • Day 1 of the Vasuki Tal via Tapovan trek: Arrive in Gangotri

    You'll report at the hotel in Gangotri by 15:00 hrs and check in. You can spend the rest of the day exploring Gangotri. Be sure to visit the local market and the temples in town. Overnight in hotel at Gangotri.

    Day 2 of the Vasuki Tal via Tapovan trek: Acclimatization

    Today will be an acclimatizing day at Gangotri. You can spend the day either exploring Gangotri or making last-minute preparations for the trek. Overnight in hotel at Gangotri.

    Day 3 of the Vasuki Tal via Tapovan trek: Gangotri to Bhojbasa via Chirbasa

    You'll begin your trek today. You'll trek to Bhojbasa via Chirbasa. The trail will take you through a beaten track towards Chirbasa which is at the tree line. Across the tree line, the terrain becomes desolate and barren. You will reach the Bhojbasa campsite by evening. Overnight in tents at Bhojbasa campsite.

    Day 4 of the Vasuki Tal via Tapovan trek: Bhojbasa to Tapovan via Gaumukh

    Today, you will trek to Tapovan via Gaumukh. Gaumukh is one of the sources of the Ganges River, and Tapovan is a gorgeous high altitude meadow. The trek has quite a steep ascent from Gaumukh to Tapovan. From the summit of Tapovan, you will get to see the Shivling Peak, and Bhagirathi I, II and III. Overnight in tents at Tapovan campsite.

    Day 5 of the Vasuki Tal via Tapovan trek: Tapovan to Nandanvan via Meru Glacier

    On this day, you will trek to Meru Glacier and then to Nandanvan via Gaumukh Glacier. The glacier walk can be very slippery, so caution is advised. You will reach Nandanvan in the afternoon. Overnight in tents at Nandanvan campsite.

    Day 6 of the Vasuki Tal via Tapovan trek: Summit to Vasuki Tal

    Today is the summit day where you'll trek to the Vasuki Tal. Your trail will take you over Chaturangi Glacier. You will explore the Vasuki Lake area which is at the base of Mt. Satopanth and Mt. Vasuki Parbat. You will then descend back to Nandanvan. Overnight in tents at Nandanvan campsite.

    Day 7 of the Vasuki Tal via Tapovan trek: Nandanvan to Chirbasa

    Today, you will retrace your steps to Chirbasa. It is a short trek and won't take long for you to reach there. Overnight in tents at Chirbasa.

    Day 8 of the Vasuki Tal via Tapovan trek: Chirbasa to Gangotri

    Today, you will trek to Gangotri. It is an easy, short trek which will end by afternoon. You can visit the Gangotri town in the evening. Overnight in hotel at Gangotri.

    Day 9 of the Vasuki Tal via Tapovan trek: Depart from Gangotri

    You will check out of the hotel in Gangotri in the morning and head to your next adventure. Your trip ends here.
